Explorations In Metal

My work in metal has been very focused on using hand tools to manipulate sheet metal in order to create interesting forms. By focusing on both artistic of form as well as technical ability, I was able to create engaging work.

Tin Plate Steel

I cut, bent, and curled tin plate steel sheets to create visually engaging forms.

Aluminum

After tin plate steel, we were introduced to aluminum. This thicker gauge material required much more time and care to manipulate. After several studies, I created the final piece shown below. It is made from a ring with holes to allow twelve quadrilateral elements to attach. Each element was created by carefully splitting the sheet metal in half and then bent outward to attach to the inside of the ring. The wire rings were strung through holes in the attachments one by one as the ring was constructed.
